Autumn in Sonsbeek Park
Autumn. My favourite season.
As a writer, I love riding my handbike to the park to spend time in nature, clear the cobwebs from my mind, and listen to the voices of my characters.
Somehow, they always have their stories to tell while I’m out, hunting for photos in Sonsbeek Park.

Summer is Over
… and I’m not sorry to see it gone. I don’t like the heat. How it melts my brain. Makes me slow and lethargic.
But now October is here, and while I usually love autumn, now I spent an entire week in bed, battling the flu, when all I wanted was to go outside and enjoy nature. I wanted to go to Sonsbeek Park. To smell the humid earth. To take photos of mushrooms, and the golden sun filtering through a multicoloured canopy of leaves.
Instead, a merciless fever made me shiver while my skin was on fire, every part of my body ached, and my brain came leaking out of eyes and nose. Not pretty.
But October isn’t over yet. I’ve still got time for a visit to Sonsbeek Park. To take new pictures. To watch the ducks, the deer—and people walking their dogs. To dream about my characters and what might happen to them in such a picturesque setting.
Sonsbeek Park, though clearly a very real park in my own town, could just as easily be a park somewhere in Briscona, on my world Sor. A park slowly melding into the centuries-old, untouched Briswoods.
The Briswoods, where Niels and Bel… But no spoilers here. If you want to find out what happened there, you’d have to read Night’s Reign.

Meanwhile, I’ve got some photos of a past autumnal trip to the park for you to enjoy.
